I was recently at Panasonic Europe with fellow executive coaches for a day of learning, including a mindbending talk by Head of AI, Margarita Lindahl.

What came out strongly for me was the need for human intelligence in the age of AI. As Margaritha said herself:
“As AI accelerates execution, leadership must elevate thinking.”
AI demands better thinking from humans, especially for the things it can’t do – like critical and ethical reasoning, judgment, intuition, creativity, cognitive flexibility, sense making, strategic thinking.
“True transformation is always human.”
As coaches we are human thinking partners, and we need to enable our clients to leverage their uniquely human skills – and use AI in a safe and ethical manner.
Like most people I use AI in my every day life, but I do so sparingly and intentionally. I would hate to become a slave to it. As Margarita pointed out, there is an important distinction between “smart and dumb use” of AI.
For me, coaching will always be person-to-person. I regard the act of coaching as an AI-free zone: a safe space where humans are allowed to be human. This is when real growth and learning happens.
Thank you for a fabulous day of insights to Lucy Linnett, Jeff Matthews and everyone in the group, looking forward to seeing you again next year!
